The ridiculous arguments we keep having.
Humanities Insanities publishes essays and debates on the arguments society can't stop having with itself — argued honestly, from every direction. It's a companion project to the National Institute for ResistRants, but where ResistRants is satire, this is the real thing: genuine, well-reasoned arguments, not a bit.
The Editorial Standard
We publish essays that make real, well-reasoned arguments — for or against — on the ridiculous debates society keeps having. A piece can take a clear position, but it has to earn it: reason from premises most readers would grant regardless of politics, show your work, and argue the actual substance of the issue rather than who's "on the right side of it."
We don't do tribal signaling — no dunking on "the left" or "the right" as a stand-in for an argument, no partisan shorthand, no piece that only works because the reader already agrees with you. If a topic runs hot, we're just as likely to run a "for" and an "against" piece side by side as we are a single take — the site doesn't have a position, our writers do.
The test: would this piece still make sense if you swapped which side usually holds this view? If yes, it's on-brand. If the argument only works for an audience already on your team, it's not ready.
